We’ve cleaned the windows, swept up the floor,

Put the OPEN sign proudly on the door.

We smile as customers wander inside,

Offer advice you simply can’t automate or hide.

You know every product, every maker, every brand,

You wrap every purchase carefully by hand.

You listen to stories, share laughter and cheer,

Because running a shop means everything here.

Yet somewhere nearby on a sofa reclined,

A shopper is scrolling, two tabs open online.

They’ll pass by your window without even a peek,

Then order the same thing for delivery next day, next week.

We carry on, through our quiet days,

Through rising costs and delivery delays.

Because when the bell rings and someone walks through,

There’s a moment that reminds us why we do what you do.

For a shop isn’t just shelves, or a till, or a sale,

It’s a place where small conversations prevail.

A little spark of life on a small street that’s real,

Where people still talk, laugh, and sometimes just feel.

Here’s to the dreamers behind every door,
